Powercuts after reported explosion in Burslem

Engineers have restored power in parts of Staffordshire and Cheshire affected by a suspected explosions at an electricity substation in Burslem.

Residents reported hearing an explosion and seeing a cloud of smoke.

Police, fire crews and Western Power engineers were called out to Evans Street off Scotia Road, just after 5pm.

There is no fire and it would appear the explosion happened inside the sub-station.

The area was initially cordoned off, but this has now been lifted.

There are no reports of any injuries and there is no danger to the public.
