Police appeal for witnesses following fatal crash on A531

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the A531 Main Road at Wrinehill in Staffordshire at around 1.20am on Saturday morning.

The collision involved a silver Toyota Prius, which contained five occupants, and a red Vauxhall Combo van, containing only the driver.

The Vauxhall was travelling in the direction of Crewe and the Prius was travelling towards Keele.

Following the collision the male rear seat passenger of the car was treated by paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service at the scene but sadly, despite their best efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. He has since been identified as Blaine Cameron Johnson, also known as Cadet, aged 28-years-old from London.

The drivers from the two vehicles were taken to hospital, where they remain being treated for serious injuries. The three passengers from the Prius sustained less serious injuries and have been discharged following treatment.

Specialist officers continue to support the family of Mr Johnson at this tragic time.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage of either of the vehicles before the collision. They are encouraged to call 101, quoting incident 45 of 9 February.
