New Community Learning Centre opens at Trentham Academy

Pupils and residents have celebrated the official opening of a new £350,000 community learning centre in Stoke-on-Trent.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has delivered the development at Trentham Academy, which has been six years in the making.

The facility boasts a large communal space, a kitchen and toilets, a collection of 2,500 books and computers. It will be used by pupils during term time to support their learning and development, and by residents every Tuesday.

Trentham Academy is a member of the City Learning Trust (CLT) which will be responsible for running and maintaining the facility.

When being used by the community, it will be run by volunteers from the Trentham Reads group, a volunteer led library service who will be responsible for managing a collection of books on loan from the council. The volunteers will loan them out to residents and manage the returns.

Trentham Reads will operate from the centre every Tuesday from 10am to 12pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm from October 1. They had previously been running weekly book lending sessions at Trentham Mews Medical Centre.
