A motorcyclist has died following an incident on the M6 in Staffordshire yesterday.
Central motorway police officers along with West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to an incident on the northbound carriageway at junction 16.
A police spokesperson said: "It followed a road traffic incident involving a motorcyclist, there were no other vehicles involved.
"Sadly a 54-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Formal identification is yet to take place.
"We would kindly urge people to respect the family’s privacy and not to speculate as to his identity or the circumstances of the incident."
The motorway between junctions 15 and 16 was closed for several hours yesterday following the incident which happened just before 1pm.
