Man who died in A53 collision has been named

Police have named a man who died following a crash on the A53 Newcastle Road in Staffordshire on Wednesday night.

Stephen Bevans from Newcastle-under-Lyme, was driving a white Peugeot van which was involved in a collision with a blue Land Rover Discovery at around 10.30pm.

Despite the efforts of members of the public and emergency service staff, 38-year-old Stephen, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. 

Specialist officers are supporting his family at this difficult time. 

The 48-year-old driver of the Land Rover Discovery remains in hospital where she is receiving treatment for her injuries. 

Officers from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

They are appealing for relevant dash-cam footage or anyone who saw either of the vehicles before the collision to contact them on 101 quoting incident 836 of 7 August or by emailing ciu@staffordshire.pnn.police.uk.
