Fire rips through Grade II home near Newcastle

A massive blaze ripped through a manor house in Betley yesterday evening.

Around fifty firefighters from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident at Betley Court, which broke out late yesterday afternoon (Friday 23 August).

An emergency service spokesperson said that eight appliances, the volume pumping unit, aerial unit, and command support were dispatched to the scene.

No one was has been reported injured, and all residents at the Grade II listed building have been accounted for.

This morning, four fire engines remain on the scene for dampening down, and checking for hot spots around the structure.

The A531 Main Road is shut in both directions between Common Lane to Court Walk, and is likely to be for some time while the fire service are at the site. Commuters are advised to avoid the area.

An investigation into how the incident began is already underway.
