Death of woman in Fenton 'now treated as suspicious'

Police have confirmed they are now treating the death of a woman in Stoke-on-Trent as suspicious.

Officers were called to Watkin Street in Fenton at around 6:20am yesterday (23 May) following the discovery of a body.

A 30-year-old woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Two 30-year-old women from Stoke-on-Trent were arrested in relation to the investigation, one on suspicion of administering a noxious substance and the other on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs. Both have since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. A post mortem to establish the cause of death is expected later today. Formal identification will take place early next week.

Forensic examinations continue at the scene.

Local neighbourhood patrols have been increased to provide reassurance and house to house enquiries have commenced.

Detective Inspector Adrian Webb, senior investigating officer for Staffordshire Police, said: "We are now treating this death as suspicious and so I would ask for anyone who might know anything about the circumstances leading up to the death to contact 101 immediately quoting incident number 66 of 23 May.
