Concern over changes to rail services

Two of Stoke-on-Trent's MP's have written to the Transport Secretary with their concerns on the future of train services.

Stoke North's Ruth Smeeth and Stoke Central's Gareth Snell have raised concerns about changes that will be introduced when a new operator takes over the West Midlands franchise in December.

This includes a direct rail service to London no longer stopping at stations including Stoke-on-Trent and Kidsgrove.

The Department of Transports says under the deal with West Midlands Trains Ltd there will be benefits including:

  • a new hourly service from December 2018 between Birmingham and Crewe, via Stafford, Stone, Kidsgrove and Alsager
  • free wifi on all main line services by the end of 2019
  • compensation if services are delayed by 15 minutes or more
  • improved access for those requiring extra assistance, including disabled people
