City council orders extra 1,000 tonnes of grit to cope with wintry weather

Gritters have hit the roads of Stoke-on-Trent, with snow forecast this evening.

The city council says its teams will be out gritting continuously from 5pm this evening (25 February), until 9am tomorrow morning (26 February).

It says that means there will be around 340 tonne of salt on the local road network during this period.

The authority has also planned an order today for an additional 1,000 tonnes of salt to be delivered by the end of this week.
