18-year-old arrested on suspicion of theft from appeal in memory of Megan Newton

An 18-year-old man has been released under investigation by police following reports money was being collected on behalf of the family of Megan Newton from Stoke.

The teenager from Newcastle-under-Lyme was arrested on Friday on suspicion of theft and fraud.

The investigation is ongoing and Staffordshire Police would urge people not to speculate about this case, not to take matters into their own hands and to allow detectives to conduct a thorough investigation into this matter.

Officers would also urge people to be cautious and make checks before making any donations online.

18-year-old Megan Newton, was found dead at an address on Fletcher Road in Stoke on the afternoon of Saturday 20 April.
