Win for Vale and defeat for Crewe

Port Vale came from a goal down to beat Shrewsbury Town 2-1 in the Football League Trophy.

Manager John Askey made five changes from the game at the weekend.

Tom Pope, Ryan Lloyd, Jake Taylor, Kieran Kennedy and Callum Evans came in for Richie Bennett, David Worrall, Luke Joyce, Tom Conlon and Leon Legge.

The visitors took the lead after an own goal from Kennedy on 27 minutes.

The Vale hit back just after the hour mark.

David Amoo was brought down in the area, he picked himself up and slammed home the penalty.

New signing Jordan Archer who came off the bench then slotted home the winner 15 minutes from time.

The Vale return to league action on Saturday when they make the trip to inform Newport County.

Elsewhere Crewe were beaten 3-1 at home to Burton Albion.

Manager Dave Artell made eight changes from the weekend, with Perry Ng, Eddie Nolan and Charlie Kirk retaining their places.

The Railwaymen were three down at the break after goals from Stephen Quinn, Scott Fraser and Lucas Akins.

The Alex made three changes at the start of the second half with Paul Green, Harry Pickering and Ryan Wintle replacing James Jones, Callum Ainley and Ollie Finney.

Green then scored Crewe's consolation three minutes from time.

Crewe are back in league action on Saturday when they make the trip to Grimsby Town.
