Vale suffer defeat at high flying Newport

Goalkeeper Scott Brown saved second half penalty

Port Vale suffered a 1-0 defeat at second place Newport County.

Manager John Askey named the same eleven that beat Cambridge in the previous game.

The only goal of the game came on 77 minutes from Jamille Matt.

Minutes later the home side were awarded a penalty after a foul by Nathan Smith.

But goalkeeper Scott Brown guessed right and pushed away Padraig Amond's spot kick.

Leon Legge then hit the bar with a header deep into stoppage time.

The Vale are now 14th in the table.

John Askey's side are back in action on Saturday when they entertain Plymouth Argyle.
