Vale manager felt his side did enough to win at Salford

Port Vale were held to a 1-1 draw at league newcomers Salford.

Manager John Askey made one change going into the game with Tom Pope returning up front in place of Mark Cullen.

The Vale appeared on course for victory when striker Richie Bennett gave them the lead on 81 minutes, only three minutes after coming on as a substitute.

He was then denied a second after an excellent save by former Vale stopper Chris Neal.

And the home side gained a point when Jake Beesley headed home a free kick deep into stoppage time with goalkeeper Scott Brown stranded.
