Stoke Speedway to cease racing after 90 years

Stoke Speedway will be holding their final ever meetings at Loomer Road over the next few weeks.

A statement has been released regarding their future.

It says: "It is with regret that Stoke Speedway has to inform all concerned that Newcastle Under Lyme Stadium Ltd. has been sold.

"The Potters will therefore complete the 2019 season and will not be operating in 2020."

According to the club's website, it was originally formed in 1929, when speedway racing began at the Sun Street Stadium in Hanley.

They moved to Loomer Road in 1973 where they have operated from, apart from a seasons hiatus in 1993, and also in 1996 when the team merged with the Cradley Heath team to become the Cradley/Stoke Heathens.

Normality resumed in 1997, with the Stoke Potters operating in their current form since then.
