Late Powell goal earns Stoke share of the spoils

Stoke City earned a share of the spoils with a 1-1 draw at Reading.

Manager Michael O'Neill sprung a surprise before kick off with his team news.

Skipper Ryan Shawcross made a welcome return from injury while Nathan Collins was drafted in along with Lasse Sorenson, who was making his first start of the season.

Danny Batth and Tommy Smith dropped to the bench, while Joe Allen is injured.

The Potters went behind inside seven minutes with Lucas Joao opening the scoring.

Stoke suffered an injury blow with Ryan Shawcross failing to reappear after the restart after picking up a groin injury.

The manager made the most of being able to field five substitutes bringing on Danny Batth, Tommy Smith. James McClean, Sam Vokes and Lee Gregory in the second period.

And just as it appeared Stoke were going to returned empty handed, up popped Nick Powell to grab equaliser in the second minute of stoppage time.

The result leaves the Potters in 18th place, two points above the drop zone.

Stoke are back in action on Saturday when they entertain Middlesbrough who are 21nd and only out of the bottom three on goal difference.
