Crewe will take confidence from Tuesday's win over Morecambe into this afternoon's trip to Colchester.
The Alex have won their last seven meetings with the Essex side.
Assistant Manager James Collins has told the club's official website: "It's a good place to go, we've had good success there before.
"It was going to get back to winning ways against Morecambe. We had to put things right after playing well against Plymouth & losing and then what happened in the Cup against Cheltenham.
"We went away to Barnet and got a vital clean sheet & then to win at home against Morecambe was important so we're back on track.
"They're coming off a good win, so they'll be confident - but we're confident of doing what we can do.
"I'm aware of the winning run at Colchester, but I don't pay too much attention to that, it's the here & now & all about getting this three points, making that an eighth victory."
