Chase the Spud wins Midlands Grand National

Chase The Spud has won the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter.

The 11-1 shot ridden by Paddy Brennan, who suffered Gold Cup heartache the day before at Cheltenham when Cue Card was a faller, came home ahead of Mysteree at 8-1.

Warrantor was third at 16-1 with Houblon Des Obeaux at 20-1 fourth.

It was a good day for jockey Richard Johnson who rode three winners.

Broughtons Rhythm won the opener at 4-1, Atirelarigo then won the 4.01pm race at 15-2 and Johnson completed his treble aboard the Barry Leavy trained 11-8 favourite Flobury in the penultimate race.

Another bumper crowd of around 15,000 turned out at the East Stafforshire course for the big race day.
